According to the press release, all the plants in Ukraine that are planning to produce sugar are fully supplied with energy and the necessary material and technical resources to complete the marketing year (MY, September 1, 2014 — September 1, 2015).
According to the forecasts of the Ministry, sugar production during this MY is going to be 1.7 — 1.75 million tons. Domestic demand for sugar during this MY is 1.7 million tons. Taking into account the carryover stock of sugar, its supply on the market in 2014/2015 MY is expected to reach 2.045 million tons.
In 2013/2014 MY, according to the UNIAN report, Ukraine produced 1.2 million tons of sugar of sugar beet, which by 45.5% less than in the previous season. In the past MY there were 38 sugar plants working, which processed 9.06 million tons of beet.
In 2014, Ukraine sowed more than 330 thousand hectares of sugar beet; its yield is expected to reach 15 million tons. This season, sugar beet processing is accelerated due to the fact that producers are concerned with potential problems with the supply of gas to their businesses.
