The International Grains Council has increased its forecast for global production, consumption and stock of grain

In the current season, the International Grains Council (IGC) has increased its forecast for global grain production up to 1 976 million tons, 17 million tons more compared to the previous month.

Most noticeable wheat harvest assessment is in Russia, the EU and China; as well as corn in the United States, Brazil, the EU and Ukraine. Total yield of wheat in the world will reach a record of 713 million tons, which is 11 million tons more than was projected last month. The share of wheat of low and medium quality in the current season will be higher than usual. The weather in the northern hemisphere remains favorable for the future harvest of corn; therefore, projected global production of this crop has been raised to 973 million tons, to 4 million tons; including 355 million tons in the United States, up 1 million tons. Last season, there was 1 992 million tons of grain collected, including 713 million tons of wheat and 982 million tons of corn.

The forecast of world grain consumption was increased by 11 million tons, to a record of 1 952 million tons, including wheat — to 706 million tons (+7 million tons compared to the previous forecast), corn — to 955 (+4) million tons. During last season, there was 1 926 million tons of grain processed, including: wheat — 695 million tons, corn — 941 million tons.

The assessment of world trade remains almost unchanged — 292 million tons, which is 15 million tons less than in the last season, but still is the second highest indicator in history. Ukraine exports 29.5 million tons of grain, Kazakhstan — 7.1 million tons.

Forecast of world’s ending stock of grain was increased again by 7 million tons, to 426 million tons. Reserves will increase by 23% compared to the previous season, to the highest level in 15 years.
