By 2015, China may become world’s leader in grain import. This is indicated by the Olam experts, Singapore's largest trading company.
Year by year, due to the increase of population and consumer demands, grain consumption in China has been growing systematically. At the same time, country’s own production is going through a deep crisis – agricultural technology of high intensity and violation of environmental regulations lead to permanent instability in the given section of economy and the gradual depletion of wetlands. Increasingly, China has to worry about poor harvests. This puts plans of Chinese government to achieve self-sufficiency in grain in some jeopardy.

As a reminder, during 2013/14 MY season, per USDA forecasts, China will import 3.5 million tons of wheat, 7 million tons of corn and 3 million tons of rice.
