In 2014, China will cut its corn imports down to 13.3 million tons- the forecast
By the end of 2014 China is out to reduce its grain imports. Such prediction was made on November 26 by the representative of China Sinopharm International Company- Mr. Chris Van, in Kyiv at the second round of V Ukrainian Grain Congress.
«Such reduction will primarily by caused by corn, supply of which, in the current year, will drop down to 13.3 million tons, against 19.1 million tons a year earlier. That is, due to already refused American grain that contained GMO,»- said the expert.
Mr. Van has also noted that he sees some good prospects in increasing the supply of Ukrainian corn onto Chinese market.
«Up to date, the entire corn supply from Ukraine to China meets the quality and safety requirements, in particular, absence of GMO content. However, due to possible presence of pests in the supplied grain a specific grain exporter ruled by phytosanitary protocols has to be designated in order to ensure the supply of pest-free corn»- the expert added.
