IGC raises record assessment of world stocks of grain
International Council Grains (IGC) has increased to 29-year high its estimate of world grain stocks by the end of 2015/16 MY.
Thus, according to the expectations of experts, stocks of coarse grains and wheat by corn will reach 465 million. tons, 10 mln. tons higher than the previous forecast of IGC.
Also, according to preliminary estimates of analysts, the sowing area under maize in the world in 2016/17 MY will increase by 1% in the US, the former Soviet Union, South America and Africa. It is expected that a slight increase in grain production against a background of increased consumption will lead to a slight reduction in stocks of maize in 2016/17 marketing year, which will amount to slightly more than 200 mln. tons.
Forecast wheat production in turn revised upwards from 706 to 711 mln. tons, 21 mln. tons inferior index a year earlier.
As defined, sown area under barley will remain at last year’s level. Despite the expected growth of crops in Europe, the former Soviet Union and North America, dry weather is somewhat depressed its production in North Africa. Overall reduction in yield of barley, according to experts, the next season is estimated at 3% per year.
