According to market operators, despite attempts from the exporting country’s government to accelerate adoption of this decision, import of GM corn, MIR 162 type, US originated, to China will be allowed no earlier than in March of the current year.
Such situation may actually be beneficial for Ukraine. Operators believe that due to the fact that China prohibited import of GM corn from its key country- supplier- USA- private Chinese importers may start purchasing Ukrainian grain. So, in December 2013 there was 108.97 thousand tons of non- GM corn of Ukrainian origin unloaded in China.
It is possible that in the future purchase of Ukrainian corn by China will have a positive trend.
As for import of American grains, by the end of 2013, China rejected 0.6 million tons of the given product due to containment of the forbidden crop variety. Besides, some operators believe that delivery of another 2 million tons of American goods, purchased by China, may be rejected as well.
