South Africa is stepping up purchases of corn from Ukraine and Argentina
Due to the dry weather conditions, South Africa this year, intends to import millions of tons of corn. Native corn crop in the country will decrease by 27% to 7.25 million. tons.
According to local traders, in early May is expected the arrival of large shipments of white maize from Mexico.
In the near future is expected to supply 228.4 thousand tons of yellow corn, from which the six parties will be originating from Argentina and one party - 25 thousand tons from Ukraine. Over the previous two weeks, 298.1 thousand tons of yellow maize were delivered in South Africa.
Every year, the South Africa consumes about 10 million tons of maize. In the current season, which will end on April 30, the country has already purchased 1.4 million tons of maize, of which 95% - yellow for forage purposes. Forecast import maize for 2016/17 season, which begins in May, is 3.8 million tons.
