By March 12, early spring grains were planted on 5% of the area planned — the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine

On March 12, press-service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported that as of that day, Ukrainian farmers sowed early spring grain crops on 129 thousand ha., accounting for 5% of the plan (+2 thousand ha. more than a year earlier).

According to the report, sowing process has been initiated in 14 regions; regions with largest areas planted are: Odessa- 27.1 thousand ha. (15% of the forecast), Kherson- 25.3 thousand ha. (18%), Nikolaev- 24.3 thousand ha. (26%), Zaporizhzhy — 18.4 thousand ha. (10%), Khmelnitsky- 10.8 thousand ha. (11%).

Winter crops for grain were fertilized on the area of 4.5 million ha. or 57% of the forecast (in 2014- 4.6 million ha.); also, 583 thousand ha. of winter rape were fertilized or 65% (in 2014 — 740 thousand. ha).

The largest areas of winter grains that were fertilized are in Odessa region (556.6 thousand ha.- 67% of the forecast), Mykholaiv — 487.3 thousand ha. (69%), Dnipropetrovs’k- 418.8 thousand ha. (62%), Zaporizhzhya — 372.1 thousand ha. (55%), Vinnitsa- 348.5 thousand ha. (81%) and Kherson- 340.2 thousand ha. (59%).
