In 2012-13 MY, according to the latest report IGC, corn production in China may reach 208 million tons. For the past two months harvest forecast was similar. Recall that in 2011-12 season, harvest of rice in the Asian country reached 192.8 million tons.
In the past month, initial corn reserve evaluation was 58.8 million tons, as in April and March. Recall that in the beginning of the last marketing season grain reserves of this type were 5 million tons less.
In the 2012-13 season, in China corn proposition is expected to reach 269.8 million tons, as in April. The March estimate was 0.5 million tons lower. Last year’s grain supply was much lower - 251.9 million tons.
Corn export forecast in 2012-13 MY remains unchanged (0.1 million tons), according to the latest report of the International Grains Council. In March, foreign grain sales reached 0.2 million tons. Last year, there were 0.2 million tons of corn of Chinese origin sold abroad.
This season’s corn import to China is estimated to be 3 million tons. In April, analysts’ estimates match the current, but in March, the expectations were 0.5 million tons lower. Recall, that a year earlier China’s corn purchases were much higher - 5.3 million tons.
In the last report, China’s grain consumption is estimated to be 208.1 million tons. In the past two months the forecast was 2 million tons higher. Last year, China’s total corn consumption volume amounted to 192.9 million tons.
According to May report of IGC, estimates, in respect of carry-over stocks of corn in China, were raised to 61.6 million tons. A month earlier, the final grain reserves were estimated to be 2 million tonnes less. In March, the forecast was 59 million tons. In the 2011-12 season, the final reserves of corn in China totaled to 58.8 million tons.
