In 2014, Ukrainian grain harvest will amount to 60 million tons – Mr. Shvayka
In 2014, Ukrainian farmers will be able to collect about 60 million tons of grain, compared with a record high 63 million tons back in 2013. This was announced at the briefing on September 24 by the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Igor Shvayka. According to him, this forecast may fluctuate "plus or minus within the boundaries of 30-40 thousand tons".
The Minister has noted that it is planned to harvest 60 million tons of grain considering the situation in the Eastern regions of Ukraine (excluding AP Crimea).
“Despite the situation in the regions, fall fieldworks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions are held at a normal pace, yet farmers have problems with logistics”, — added Mr. Shvayka. As a reminder, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, 2015 winter crops are planned to be seeded on an area of 7.5 million hectares. Yet, fall seeding campaign is expected to grow by 12-15% in price in comparison with the previous year and will cost farmers about 56 billion UAH.
