Uninterrupted power supply for one of Ukraine's largest egg producers, the "Avis" Poultry Farm Branch of PJSC "Avangard Agroholding", became a critical issue after massive attacks on Ukraine's energy system. In response, the company decided to implement alternative electricity supply projects in 2023-2024. This would not only meet their own needs but also supply electricity to the population.

At the Avis poultry farm of PJSC "Avangard Agroholding" in Khmelnytskyi region, part of the UkrLandFarming group, solar panels and cogeneration units were installed. Currently, the solar panels have a capacity of 3.5 MW. Additionally, a 1 MW cogeneration unit was launched, with plans to install two more in the future.

The company aims to utilize the recently introduced mechanism for independent electricity generation, obtain active consumer status, and be able to transmit excess electricity to the grid to supply the local population.

In response to the company's application, the local DSO (distribution system operator) cited the law on alternative energy sources, specifically the article "Encouraging the Production of Electricity from Alternative Energy Sources through the Self-Production Mechanism," and denied permission to connect to the energy system as a power producer. In reality, this article applies to all generating units commissioned before December 31, 2029, regardless of whether they use renewable energy. While company representatives write letters and visit authorities, excess electricity is wasted.

Thus, the company has reached a deadlock in its relations with local energy providers, and this issue is not isolated. UkrLandFarming PLC, which includes Avangard Agroholding, has already purchased and plans to install 49 more units in 2024. Their total capacity will be about 70 MW. This generation will primarily meet the needs of their enterprises but can also provide electricity and heat to 50,000 apartments, from Lviv to Kharkiv.
