In January, almost 70% of Ukrainian corn exports belong to the EU

In January 2014, the biggest export drop, compared with the previous month, showed corn- 2.5 million tons, by 1.4 million tons, or 36%, less than in the previous month. This is due to a gradual decrease in producer inventories after the preceding three months of export boom; and, Christmas holidays, as well as the corresponding slowing grain market.

The largest importers of Ukrainian corn in the reporting month were Spain- 381.1 thousand tons, the Netherlands- 244.4 thousand tons and Portugal-235.8 thousand tons. 68.2% of January’s total export volume went to EU countries, the second region in terms of purchases was Southeast Asia- 17.2%, and third place belongs to Northern Africa- 13.7%, while Middle East reduced its purchases to 10.2%.
In the reporting month, average selling price of Ukrainian corn for export on CPT/ DAP/ FOB/ CIF bases was $190.78/t, while in December it was $184.69/t.
