In the spring 2014, Ukrainian farmers will have to replant about 6-10% of the area under winter crops. According to UNIAN, said Mr. Mykola Kulbida, director of Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, at a press briefing on Monday.
"This year, depending on the region , we expect winter crop to be damaged on 6-10% of the area. But this is below average for Ukraine",- he said.
According to Mr. Kulbida, as of today worst conditions of winter crops are in Luhansk region, weak and thinned are 15-20% of crops, as well as in Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk, Poltava and Sumy regions (11-15%). The best situation, according to the forecaster, has developed in the western regions, Zhytomyr region and the Crimea, where areas of damaged crops do not exceed 5%.
The director of Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center also noted that such a state of winter crops makes it possible to predict an increase in their productivity by 10-20% compared to 2013.
"Such conditions of winter crops allows us to assess the crop yield by 10-20 % higher than last year, when there was 26.5 million tons of winter crops harvested",- he said.
As it has been reported, according to the State Statistics Service, Ukraine sowed 8.8 million hectares of winter crops to harvest in 2014, which is by 4.4% lower than under the current harvesting year.
