Fieldwork progress
According to the operative data, spring crops and legumes (including corn) with the forecast of 8.3 million hectares were planted on an area of nearly 7.2 million hectares (87% of the forecast), including:
- Sowing of early spring grains is completed on an area of nearly 2.6 million hectares;
- Corn for seed has been planted on an area of 4436 ths. hectares (86% of the forecasted 5136 thousand hectares);
- Buckwheat — on an area of 74 thousand hectares (44% of the forecasted 168 thousand hectares);
- Millet — on 56 thousand hectares (46% of the forecasted 121 thousand hectares);
- Rice on an area of 7 thousand hectares, or 32% of the forecast (23 thousand hectares);
- Sowing of sugar beet was conducted on the area 325 thousand hectares, which is 101% of the forecast (322 thousand hectares);
- Sunflower planted on an area of 3920 ths. hectares, or 91% of the forecast (4326 ths. hectares);
- Soybeans — on 1355 ths. hectares, or 82 % of the forecast (1648 ths. hectares).
Winter crops condition
As of May 8, 2014 out of 7.8 million hectares sown with winter crops there are 7.3 million hectares (94%) in good and satisfactory conditions, 0.4 million hectares (5%) in weak and liquefied state and, died — 103.5 thousand hectares (1%).
Winter rape: there are 578.4 thousand hectares (61%) in good condition, 280.6 thousand hectares (29%) in satisfactory condition, in weak and liquefied — 59.4 thousand hectares (6%), died- 34.2 thousand hectares (4%).
Structure of sowing areas
According to the forecasts, for the harvest of 2014, sowing area under spring crops in all farming categories is expected to be 18.3 million hectares (excluding possible replanting).
Spring crops and legumes are projected to be located on an area of 8.3 million hectares, including early spring crops- 2.6 million hectares.
In the technical group of spring crops it is planned to sow 6.5 million hectares, including 325 thousand hectares of sugar beet, this is 11% more than last year, while reducing space under sunflower by 10%, down to 4.3 million hectares.
