Yield of winter wheat will amount to 22 million tons — Mr. Kulbida
In 2015, Ukraine will harvest 21-22 million tons of winter wheat. This statement was made by Mr. Kulbida, chief of Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, during a press conference.
We have not succeeded this past fall in terms of moisture, which resulted in delays in sowing.
«Not all crops have entered the winter in the desired state; that is, in developmental phases that would allow them to live through the winter most successfully», — he said.
At the beginning of the growing season, according to the expert, area under winter crops in poor condition, that required replanting, was 1.2 million hectares or 15% of the sown.
According to the forecast of the head of Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, this year harvests of winter crops will be close to an average of the past 5 years.
«Even if the average meteorological parameters will be even partially unfavorable, the yield of winter wheat in Ukraine will be about 33 c/ha; and, considering sown areas it can amount to 21-22 million tons», — said Mr. Kulbida, adding that last year’s harvest amounted to 24.3 million tons with an average yield of 40 c/ha.
