IGC: September Forecast Extends Ukraine’s Share in World Wheat Trade to 6%, and Corn - up to 16%

In its September report the International Grains Council (IGC) has significantly improved Ukraine’s position on the world grain market. While previous forecast confirmed strengthening positions of the Ukrainian exporters primarily on global corn market, current forecast, in September – on the wheat market, as well.
In Ukraine projected wheat production increased by 2 million tons to 22 million tons. Accordingly, forecast of grain export from Ukraine was revised from 7.2 million tons to 8.5 million tons. Thus, to a large extent, the Council revised projections of the world wheat market due to the growing expectations from Ukrainian. Therefore, share of Ukrainian exports in world wheat trade has increased from 5.17 % to 6.04 %.
In addition, although the main indicators of Ukrainian corn market - production, consumption, initial reserves - were not reviewed, the forecasted export of “the queen of fields” from Ukraine has increased by 0.5 million tons, to 16 million tons, due to expected increase in demand from key importers. As a result, the share of Ukrainian exports in the world corn trading grew from 15.75 % to 16.06%.
