Ukraine and the United States Discussed Issues on Mutual Crop Breeding Cooperation
Ukraine and the United States plan to deepen their cooperation in crop selection in the agricultural sector.
Ukraine and the United States plan to deepen their cooperation in crop selection in the agricultural sector. In particular, the parties agreed to cooperate in the creation and testing of new kinds of crops, development of new methods of plant breeding, etc.
This was discussed yesterday at a meeting of the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ivan Bisyuk, with the representatives of the Texas Tech University of Agriculture and Engineering, according to the information reviled by press service of Ukrainian authorities to "Kazakh-Zerno" IA.
"In order to offer the world a much needed nutrition security we are ready to deepen our cooperation with the University of Texas. Hence, we intend to discuss creation of new varieties of durum wheat that can be grown in the Ukrainian climate zones ", - said Ivan Bisyuk.
First Deputy Minister has also noted that the parties need to consider new methods of plant breeding. And, has also called to pay close attention in introduction of new cultivation technologies and crop processing.
In turn, Dr. Bill McCutchen, Director of the Research Institute of AgiLife, and Dr. Travis Miller, Deputy Head of the Department of Soil and Crop, have confirmed their interest in mutual cooperation with Ukrainian scientists in these areas.
Moreover, both parties agreed to do an exchange of students among Kharkiv National Agrarian University of V.V. Dokuchaev and the Texas Tech University of Agriculture.
