Spring sowing campaign this year in Ukraine was characterized by rapid and significant increase in the areas under peas, writes ukragroconsult.com. During the initial forecast of 182 thousand ha Ukrainian farmers are able to sow 226 thousand ha, which is 33% higher than last year's crop. This record area under peas in Ukraine over the past five years.
This year, farmers have ventured, and this risk is fully justified itself. The weather conditions during the sowing developed favorably, in addition allowed to start the sowing campaign a few weeks early. Sowing peas in the southern areas had already begun in the 20 days of February. Then to Ukraine come early spring, which was accompanied by a sufficient amount of precipitation, and consequently good and productive moisture reserves in the soil. Thus, early sowing of spring crops developed better long-term norm.
Given this significant growth area for peas and favorable agro-meteorological conditions, which promise good yields, gross harvest of peas in 2016 may become the highest in the last 10 years.
