Import of Corn According to the forecasts of the Foreign Agricultural Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (FAS USDA), during 2013/14 season wheat yield in China in China will decries to 118 million tons, despite the increase of acreage from 24.14 to 24.25 million hectares. In the current season, the Chinese farmers collected 120.6 million tons of wheat.
Wheat consumption for food purposes will remain at the level of current season, for forage- reduced from 20 to 15 million tons.
Wheat import will be reduced to 2 million tons, by 1 million ton if compared with the current season. In the first half of the current season there was 1522.6 thousand tons of wheat imported to China, including from Australia- 855.0 thousand tons, from USA- 410.3 thousand tons, from Canada- 173.5 thousand tons, Russia imported 1.7 thousand tons of wheat. During season of 2011/12, China imported 2 920.1 thousand tons of wheat, including from Australia- 1 837.6 thousand tons, from USA- 556.9 thousand tons, from Canada- 343.0 thousand tons. Russian wheat export to China did not exceed 1.4 thousand tons.
During 2013/14 season corn production will increase to 210 million tons, 1% in comparison to the current season, due to increased acreage area.
Domestic consumption of corn will grow from 207 to 224 million tons due to continuing increase in demand for feed grains for livestock.
Import of corn in China with a low level of current season (3 million tons) will grow to 4 million tons; the United States traditionally been leading supplier of corn to China. During 2011/2012 season USA have exported 5 127.447 thousand tons of corn, or 98% of total export volume, during 2010/2011 season – 1 692.054 thousand tons, or 99%. This season, American corn is not competitive because of high prices, but in the next season its interest to Chinese consumers will grow. According to data from trade sources, China has already contracted about 1 million tons of American new corn yields, harvest of which will be held during September-November.
