In 2012, grain reserves in PRC have significantly exceeded import volumes of the product. As company pointed out, currently the country has completely resolved its food safety issue. According to last year’s results, China purchased over 70 million tons of grain from abroad. Import growth was not caused by supply shortage in the country, but rather due to the lower prices for the given product offered overseas than in China. In 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture of China plans to keep the amount of acreage under grain crops in the amount of 1.669 billion mu (111.3 million hectares). According to authorities, despite record high harvest, the country still has some structural deficit in the supply of grain. In 2012, total grain yield in China amounted to 589,57 million tons. That is by 18,36 million tons (3.2%) more than the year earlier. For nine consecutive years, Chinese farmers collected some rich harvest of grain.
