USDA Experts published their assessment of agro-meteorological conditions for vegetation of agricultural crops in the Black Sea region.
According to the USDA, in most areas of Black Sea where intensive agriculture is taking place some cool weather has established; in the South and East of the region, however, cool weather is replaced by warm. Accordingly, in Belarus, Northern Ukraine and Southern Russia development of winter wheat has been somewhat slowed down due to low temperatures during night time; towards the South, however, temperatures and, therefore rate of wheat vegetation remains within the optimum range.
Movement of a storm front towards the region contributes to rather heavy precipitations in most agricultural areas of the Black Sea region- 5-35 mm — which is a very favorable factor for vegetation of winter crops, especially in the central and Eastern Ukraine. As a consequence, the development of both winter and spring crops in these areas is showing very encouraging pace. Grain is growing at expeditious rate in the South of Russia, and in the South- Eastern parts of the Volga region.
