The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food held a meeting on the development of bioenergy by the agrarian sector of Ukraine, the press service of the department said.

As it was stated at the meeting, the agricultural sector of Ukraine may provide the country with up to 30-40 billion cubic meters of gas annually, and requires building of about 3 thousand biogas plants. At this level of production one cubic meter of biogas will cost 60-70 cents, or about $50-60/tcm at the current rate.

Also, in the process of the meeting the problem of production of liquid and solid biofuels was discussed, as well as growth of “energy” crops.

Ukraine’s need for gas imports amounts up to 30 billion cubic meters per year. Russian gas monopoly “Gazprom” offers its gas at cost of more than $400/tcm.
