In the current year Ukraine may harvest more grain than a year before — Mr.Shvaika
Despite the loss of harvesting areas in the ATO area and annexed Autonomous Republic of Crimea, during 2014 Ukraine may harvest more grain than last year. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Igor Shvaika during briefing on August 13th.
“Grain yield and harvest volumes that were already collected to date are considerably higher than those from last year, this gives us some solid grounds to expect this year’s yield to be higher than last year’s,” — he said.
In particular, according to the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, current year’s gross wheat yield exceeds last year’s number by 1.1 million tons, barley — by 1.7 million tons.
At the same time, Mr. Shvaika also noted that the highest average yield of grain in Ukraine was recorded in Khmelnitsky (51.8 c/ ha), Cherkassy (47.8 c/ ha) and Vinnitsa (46.7 c/ ha) regions. The highest gross yield- in Odessa (3.1 million tons of grain), Kharkiv (2.9 million tons), Dnipropetrovs’k (2.4 million tons) regions.
