To address the concerns about the turnover of such products in the State Inspectorate of Agriculture consider it necessary to establish strict control over cultivation, storage, transportation and use of such products. For violation of legislation on turnover of GM products- it is encouraged to identify and establish a clear responsibility.
According to the head of State Inspectorate of Agriculture, Vladislav Goncharenko, these tasks can be implemented by making the necessary changes in the Ukrainian legislation.
"Such control is possible only in case of legislative consolidation, therefore it is necessary to develop appropriate changes to the existing legislation, which will create a clear regulation mechanism for handling GMOs: from soil, namely seeds, which are laid in it, and to the process of using products grown," - said Mr. Goncharenko, whose words are quoted in the report .
The head of the department has also noted that changes in the law should provide for the appropriate buffer zones for the cultivation of GM products, separate storage and determine a safe process of its export.
