According to the latest forecast of CNGOIC analytics, in 2013/14 MY China’s wheat import will grow to 5 million tons, which is higher than expert’s earlier forecast (3.5 million tons), and outnumbers last season’s results by 73% (2.9 million tons).

Note, this is the highest result in the past decade.

Key factor in growing supply of grain into the country during new season is necessity to recover national grain reserve and satisfy growing domestic demand. According to experts, a decrease in wheat inventories is due to adverse weather conditions.

As for expert’s forecasts concerning expected grain production in 2013/14 MY- it corresponds to last year’s result– 120.6 million tons. The gross yield of winter wheat is expected to be 115.3 million tons, compared to the last year’s result (114.8 million tons).

In 2013/14 wheat consumption within the country may reach 123.5 million tons, against last year’s 125.3 million tons; 89 (87.6) million tons of which was flour wheat, and 17.5 (21) million tons- forage.
