China prolonged its ban on import of MIR162 corn type

In Ukraine, sowing of spring grains is completed on 2.4 million hectares

As of April 2, 2014, according to the operational data, in Ukraine sowing of spring crops was held on an area of 2 385 thousand hectares (April 1 – 2 331 thousand hectares). As of today barley was planted on 1 817 thousand hectares (84% of the area planned), peas – 182 thousand hectares (91%), wheat- 145 thousand hectares (88%) and oats – 231 thousand hectares (92%).

Assumption of possible shortage in the current grain sowing campaign has no basis whatsoever. Spring field works are in normal phase and within determined timeframe. Thus, as of today early spring grains and legumes have already been planted on 86% of an area forecasted; that is, on an area of 2 385 thousand hectares.

China rejects another cargo with 21.8 thousand tons of U.S. corn

Chinese importers rejected previously contracted cargo with American corn with total volume of 21.8 thousand tons. The reason for decline, traditionally, was suspicion that grain contained GM component of Syngenta MIR162 type. As a result, for this same reason, since the beginning of the calendar year, Chinese importers have already declined over 0.8 million tons of grains.

Since the beginning of 2013/14MY (July-June) and as of March 24, 2014 the actual export volumes of grain from Ukraine amounted to 26 791 thousand tons, of which 7 659 thousand tons of wheat was of foreign supply, corn- 16 725 thousand tons, barley- 2 152 thousand tons.

Ukrainian farmers sowed early spring crops on 50% of the area planned

In Ukraine, according to the operational data, as of March 24, 2014 total area of 1.5 million hectares was sowed with an early spring crops, which is 50% of the prospective planting area. The number includes: barley on an area of 1.15 million hectares (52%), peas- 135.9 thousand hectares (65%), wheat- 75.3 thousand hectares (41%) and oats- 129.9 thousand hectares (46%).

China bought 50 thousand tons of Ukrainian corn

In a private transaction, a feed mill, located in Southern China, purchased 50 thousand tons of Ukrainian corn. This was reported by Bloomberg IA. Cargo with corn onboard will leave from the Mykholaiv port.
