Export of Ukrainian corn to China hits the record

According to the official statistics, export of corn from Ukraine to China in January 2014 totaled 190.4 thousand tons, which exceeds the record of the past 10 years in November by 75% (109.1 thousand tons).

In January 2014, the biggest export drop, compared with the previous month, showed corn- 2.5 million tons, by 1.4 million tons, or 36%, less than in the previous month. This is due to a gradual decrease in producer inventories after the preceding three months of export boom; and, Christmas holidays, as well as the corresponding slowing grain market.

In 2013/14 MY, export potential of the grain market of Ukraine totaled 31.7 million tons, which is record high and is 43% higher than trading export results during 2012/13 MY. In addition, it is predicted that in the current season there will be export of 1.4 million tons of Ukrainian soybeans, about 2.2 million tons of rapeseed and 3.9 million tons of sunflower oil.

CHINA: ban on import of GM corn from the United States may have favorable reflection for Ukraine

According to market operators, despite attempts from the exporting country’s government to accelerate adoption of this decision, import of GM corn, MIR 162 type, US originated, to China will be allowed no earlier than in March of the current year.
